Religion

Our Catholic faith is very important at St. John Central School. Our students in kindergarten - 5th grade receive religious education several times a week as well as attending weekly Mass. This year our Religion Teachers included, Heather Schaad (1st-3rd), Virginia Dyar ( 4th-6th), and Ken Huck. Below is a description of what your students would learn in there religion classes!

1st-3rd

In religion class, for grades 1-3, we focus on introducing the foundations of the Catholic faith and Christ's church.  We use a variety of engaging stories, activities, and projects to build on the child's relationship with God.  Grade 2 in a special year and students prepare to receive the sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist for the fist time.  Prayer is a central focus, as it is throughout all grades and subjects at St. John Central School.  - Heather Schaad

4th-6th

The fourth grade religion class will  focus on each of us being made in the image of God and on living the ten commandments.  The fifth grade focus is on the Sacraments. In both classes, I plan to teach the gifts of the holy spirit, the virtues and the beatitudes, Both classes will be learning the mysteries of the Rosary and the 5th grade will complete activities using their Bibles.  The 6th grade will be reviewing parts of speech, using words correctly in sentences, paragraphs, and in writing longer passages. - Virginia Dyar

Music

In Music class at St. John's we focus on fundamentals, while fostering creativity and a love for music.  We integrate the rich traditions of the Catholic faith in our learning.  We generally produce two programs each year, a Christmas program and an "All-School Musical" in the spring.  We include instrumental and handbell instruction in the upper grades.  We also provide the music for weekly school Mass.  This includes a variety of hymns and chanting the ordinaries of the Mass.  - Heather Schaad

Physical Education

In Physical Education classes,  our curriculum is designed to promote physical fitness, teamwork, and a lifelong love of movement with the gifts given to us by God. I am a certified Pound and Generation Pound Pro and look forward to integrating a variety of fun activities for the upcoming year.  - Heather Schaad
