St. John Central School LEAC

What is LEAC ?

The St. John Central School Local Education Advisory Council (LEAC) is a consultative body to the principal and pastoral administrator to discuss and review the progress of the educational program. The Board of Pastors determine the size of the LEAC. The LEAC is an advisory body and does not serve in a governance capacity. 

 

Responsibilities of the LEAC include:

  • Advise and assist the Pastoral Administrator and Principal with programs for growth in school enrollment, student alumni relations, marketing, and public relations initiatives. 

  • Assist the Pastoral Administrator and Principal in the implementation of Policies and Operational Directives. 

  • Provide advisory input relative to local rules and regulations (i.e. Parent/Student Handbooks) that are not in conflict with the Policies and Operational Directives.

Meetings must be held on School Property to be abide by the LEAC Constitution. â€‹

Eligibility of Members

- Must be active practicing Catholics in good standing, who has a child enrolled at St. John Central School or suitable contributing life experience. 

- Members cannot be a family member (sibling/spouse/parent/child) of a school employee

- Members cannot be current school finance council members or family members (sibling/spouse/parent/child) of finance council members. 

Different Types of Members

Parent Members 

- Members who are parents/guardians of a student in the school. 

- They are Voting Members 

 

Community Members

- Members who are not parents/guardians of a student in the school.

- They are Voting Members

Executive Members 

- Executive Members are Pastoral Administrator, Principal, and one school faculty representative. 

- They are Non-Voting Members

​

The Chair

- The Pastoral Administrator will appoint one voting member (Parent or Community) to serve as the Chair. 

- The Chair is responsible for meeting agendas in consultation with Pastoral Administrator and Principal 

- Alerting LEAC Members of meetings

- Conducting LEAC meetings in accordance with Robert's Rules of Order. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹

Terms of Members

- The term of office for LEAC Members shall be limited to 2 years.

- Members may be reappointed for additional term but not serve more than 2 consecutive terms. 

- Exceptions can be made on account of the Pastoral Administrator, Principal, and Board of Pastors

How to become a Member

- New membership can be obtained by nomination from members of Board of Pastors, Pastoral Administrator, 

Principal, and current LEAC Members. 

- Once nominated, candidates have to approved by Pastoral Administrator and Principal. School Superintendent does have the right to override decision of a candidate after discussing with Pastoral Administrator.

- Approved candidates shall be submitted to the full Board of Pastors for accpenatnce, via majority vote.
