Maria Huffman, Early Childhood Educator
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I am the preschool teacher at St. John Central School. I graduated from WVU at Parkersburg in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. My previous teaching experiences are 5th grade, kindergarten, and Title One Math. This is my fourth year of teaching preschool and my second year here at St John.
FAMILY
My family is my life. I love to be with my family and be involved in everything they do. I’m married to Kirk Huffman. We just celebrated 20 years of marriage last May. We have five wonderful children, Isaac, Noah, Maggie, Jacob and Sophia.
OUT-OF-SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
Outside of school, I help volunteer with my children’s activities. I’m on the booster committee at St. John, I also work as the athletic director for St. John. Following my children in their sports is my favorite pastime.
CLASSROOM POLICIES AND GOALS
I believe children deserve respect. A child’s self respect should be nurtured tenderly. Children should not be humiliated, hurt or embarrassed. Modeling is the most powerful way to affect a child’s learning. It is also our duty as teachers to bring out the best in each student.
