Personal Background

I have taught at St. John’s for the past seven years. I began my teaching career as a part time substitute aide at Parkersburg Catholic Elementary School. I have worked with children in several settings. I completed my ACDS Certification and became the Lead Teacher at Joyful Sound Daycare in Parkersburg, WV. I have 19 years of experience in working with children in the early childhood field.

FAMILY

In addition to continuing my education and teaching at St. John’s, I enjoy family life with my husband, three children, and cat. My oldest daughter is married and now teaches second grade in Parkersburg, WV. My son just graduated college. And my youngest daughter attends an area Catholic High School.

OUT-OF-SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

I enjoy spending time with my family at the beach, swimming, walking. I enjoy European Royal History, Historical Documentaries and I am a big fan of Downton Abbey. I volunteer and enjoy activities with my youngest daughter at Parkersburg Catholic High School. I am an active member at St. Michael's Catholic Church.

CLASSROOM POLICIES AND GOALS

I believe children should be taught in a positive, nurturing, environment that promotes self-discovery and exploration through hands on activities, concrete props, and visual aids.

I believe children learn best when provided with opportunities for social growth, so I plan activities that promote self-discovery and exploration through inquiry, questions, social interactions, experiments and field trips to allow them to develop and learn naturally. I challenge them to be the best they can be.

I am confident, patient, and understanding. I have effective communication skills, which incorporate listening just as much as speaking. I am knowledgeable, foster a stable developing and learning environment, and offer many experiences for all children to be successful.

I believe connecting with the children and their parents establishes a secure personal relationship and provides a positive preschool experience.

Physical Environment

The classroom is decorated with student created art, teacher made adornments, and store bought supplies. The physical classroom has ample room for the children to walk and sit on the floor to play. The classroom encourages independence and allows the children to move freely from one area to another. It is easily organized; the children can place items on the shelves and clean up the room on their own.

Cubbies are used for their backpacks and pencil boxes. Each child has their own mailbox for their papers. We have a computer lab, reading center, audio reading center, and craft table with an art center. The preschool has a security door.
